Why did we pick Mind?

Because mental health matters, now more than ever! We put the call out to the entire Major Family to suggest worthy causes and had a vote, with one resounding winner!

Mind is one of the UK’s leading mental health charities. It’s dedicated to ensuring nobody has to face a mental health problem alone. For over 70 years, they have been championing mental wellbeing, offering vital support, and breaking down stigma across England and Wales.

What Mind Actually Does

Mind’s work centres around three core pillars:

  • Inform: Providing life‑changing information so people understand their mental health and know where to turn
  • Support: From helplines to online communities and local services. Mind is there with real people and real hope when life gets tough
  • Fight: Campaigning for lasting change so that society, and systems support mental health properly

Mind’s team don’t just dabble, they’re out there making a measurable difference day in, day out:

122,000+ support queries answered through their helplines in 2023–24.
25.3 million visits to Mind’s mental health information.
Thousands of people connecting and supporting one another online.

And that’s just scratching the surface, from peer support communities to helping employers foster mentally healthy workplaces. Mind’s reach is huge and growing!

Mind also works closely with over 100 local Minds across communities, offering targeted services such as crisis helplines, drop‑in centres, supported housing, employment schemes, and more.

They give real help when it matters the most

Whether you need someone to talk to, or help navigating complex systems, Mind’s support options really do make a difference:

📞 Infoline & Support Lines – Friendly, trained advisors ready to listen and guide
⚖️ Legal Line – Up‑to‑date info on mental health‑related law and rights
💡 Online Resources & Peer Support – From the mental health A–Z to the Side by Side community

In a world where mental health challenges are increasingly common (and often still stigmatised) organisations like Mind don’t just help people survive, they help people feel heard, supported, and empowered.

Fundraising plans for 2026….get ready!

We’re not subtle when it comes to supporting a great cause. We throw ourselves into the deep end and do as much as we can. We throw our fitness and embarrassment to one side, all in aid of our charity of choice! We’ve already been making plans for this year’s fundraising ideas, and we have a few:

  • Waxing the Major Men Pain, laughter, and charitable giving…it’s a triple threat
  • Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge Scenic views, sore legs, and serious team spirit
  • Marathons & Running Challenges Sweating on pavements and unlimited bragging rights
  • Major Pub Quiz All smarty pants are welcome (as long as they’re sponsoring)

PLUS New Ideas From YOU! If you’ve got a wild challenge idea? We want it. Dunk tanks? Spelling bees? Donkey rides? Well… maybe not donkey rides. Whatever you dream up, we’ll (probably) try it, as long as we’re raising money for Mind whilst we’re at it.

Get involved – We’re better together

This year is about community, connection, and change. You can help the Major Family to support Mind and join our fundraising fun by:
