Supply Chain Supervisor

Major Recruitment are working in partnership with Polytec, a leading automotive manufacturer, to recruit a Supply Chain Supervisor to play a key role in the Supply Chain department at their site based in Telford.

As a Supply Chain Supervisor, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of a fast-moving manufacturing environment whilst achieving agreed budgetary and service levels to customers as well as meeting all legal requirements. Responsible for organising the safe and efficient receipt, storage and dispatch of warehouse materials, goods, and products to feed business operations and customer demand. Responsible for the day-to-day management of people within the warehouse function, to ensure company’s targets and objectives are met to meet customer requirements, ensuring that staff comply with health, safety and standard operating procedures. Responsible for housekeeping standards and continuous improvement within the warehouse.

Key Responsibilities of a Supply Chain Supervisor:

  • Plan, co-ordinate and monitor the receipt, storage and dispatch of goods.
  • Ensure orders are processed efficiently and that the delivery of materials to production lines is in accordance with production schedules and to quality standards and the delivery of materials meets customers timescales/requirements.
  • Organise, facilitate and manage stock takes at regular intervals.
  • Ensure that all relevant procedures and processes are followed and adhered to in line with the Company’s procedures and requirements.
  • Operate visual delivery tracking systems in order that commodity status can be seen at a glance.
  • Ensure that internal delivery processes are adhered to, to support dispatch time windows.
  • Lead follow up and resolve Customer concerns.
  • Identify errors and eliminate root cause using robust countermeasures and sustain the corrective actions to eliminate repeat issues.
  • Deliver efficiencies to support year on year operational budget reduction.
  • Manage the implementation of engineering changes, production trials, model change and pilot build ensuring robust product life cycles.
  • Implement warehouse and management systems and working practices in line with best practice and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain the management of supplier return packaging.
  • Record and communicate all shortage issues to the relevant personnel.
  • Provide a safe working environment, adhering to Health, Safety and Environmental procedures and ensuring they are understood and practiced by the team at all times.

Skills required to be a successful Supply Chain Supervisor:

  • Achievement of or working towards Supervisory qualification e.g. NEBS/ILM
  • Production/Manufacturing experience – automotive desirable
  • Experience of operating in a supervisory capacity within a fast paced, highly pressurised warehouse and distribution environment
  • Strong people and performance management skills
  • Continuous improvement and problem-solving techniques
  • Excellent IT Skills
  • Excellent SAP knowledge experience of D-Soft advantageous
  • Ability to sustain and develop team working and team based problem solving
  • Excellent Communication Skills and ability to build strong working relationships
  • Able to work on initiative
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team of people to succeed by utilising appropriate interpersonal styles including leading by example, setting objectives and defining responsibilities to give a clear sense of direction

Quality Technician

Major Recruitment are working in partnership with Polytec, a leading automotive manufacturer to recruit Quality Technician on a permanent basis to join their Quality Team based in Bridgnorth.

Working hours of a Quality Technician are 40 hours per week.

As a Quality Technician you be required to assist/support the Quality Engineers by providing production expertise to resolve Quality issues within the production operation. Ensure that the product meets customer’s requirements (both internal and external) at each stage of its manufacturing process, carrying out relevant testing and where necessary take corrective action to rectify non-conformance issues. Report quality issues data, ensuring the Quality Management System is adhered to at all stages.

Key duties of a Quality Technician

  • Carry out product tests and thorough independent final inspection of finished assemblies to defined procedures, formally reporting all defects
  • Responsible for checking, progressing and collating accurate build and inspection records
  • Provide technical support in the areas of machine pre-delivery inspection, Goods Inwards, and Production line Quality support activities
  • Inspect and auditing of all components and all stages of the manufacturing process
  • Investigate any quality issues to identify root cause and raise appropriate corrective action paperwork and ensure issues are addressed and resolved
  • Ensure compliance and assist with adherence to the Quality Management system (TS16949/ISO9001)
  • Support regular inspection meetings with representatives from appropriate departments to establish an action plan for improving build quality
  • Attend and report at regular improvement meetings, providing secure preventative actions to external and internal quality related concerns
  • Ensure all products flow through the inspection department
  • Ensure all incidents of non-conformance are recorded
  • Maintain the calibration system, ensuring all equipment is correctly calibrated
  • Assist the Quality Engineer with new product introduction
  • Manage manufacturing master drawings to ensure build standard control is maintained on assigned projects
  • Produce management feedback on performance in areas of responsibility
  • Carry out internal audits of other departments
  • Undertake special projects as required
  • Contribute to continuous improvement activities
  • Quality control of work by appropriate reviews
  • Support and participate in process improvement activities
  • Write simple reports and provide information to management
  • Achieve goals within budget
  • Plan projects or subtasks so they may be tracked and presented
  • Be aware and work to achieve the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Attend various meetings and action/communicate instructions
  • Undertake continuous training and development
  • Participate in root cause analysis and resolving problems
  • Agree the approach to be taken to assigned tasks
  • Comply with the Health, Safety and Environmental Policies

Skills required as a Quality Technician

  • Automotive experience – desirable
  • Awareness of Six Sigma techniques and Core Tool/GD&T principles – essential
  • Proven experience in Tier 1 or OEM automotive
  • Audit experience with a good working knowledge of IATF 16949 and VDA standards
  • Awareness of Six Sigma techniques and Core Tool/GD&T principles – essential
  • Knowledge of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA)
  • Lean Manufacturing knowledge
  • Knowledge of measurement
  • Understanding of engineering drawings
  • Planning and prioritising activities
  • Ability to work in a diverse and dynamic environment
