The main tasks of the role are outlined below: –

  • Offline tool setting using Zoller pre-setter software.
  • Create detailed Collision Avoidance Software (CAS) machine environments.
  • 9-axis machining to produce intricate, precision components.
  • ATC management
  • Okuma programming system
  • Carry out machining of components to tight tolerances and validate one’s own work. Machining will include stainless steel as well as other exotic materials (hastelloy, inconel, tristelle etc.)
  • To measure components produced on machines, using a variety of inspection equipment (including FARO arm and CMM) to ensure that components are manufactured to drawing dimensions and tolerances.
  • Overcome problems and use initiative and knowledge to provide solutions.
  • Optimising processes to improve efficiencies.
  • Running multiple processes effectively where feasible.
  • Read, interpret, and work from engineering drawings.
  • Contribute in a team working environment.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement.
  • Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Manually handle weights up to 25kg.
  • Complete quality documentation.
  • Use computer equipment for data purposes.
  • Work to lean theory.

  • Okuma Multus U4000

The role also includes other general duties to maintain the efficient working of the department. An essential element of the role is to take responsibility for quality of own work to establish and successfully maintain a ‘right first time’ philosophy throughout the organisation. In a bid for continuous improvement all SMO’s will be provided with internal and external training where necessary to keep them up to date with factory processes and equipment.

Experience/Knowledge

  • Experience of working with stainless steels and machine programming using 9-axis Fanuc/Okuma/Mazak CNC controls.
  • Be proficient at set up, operation and adjustment of tool and fixture offsets on CNC machine tools as well as conventional milling machines would be preferred.
  • Experience of working to tight tolerances.
  • Prior knowledge and experience of machining stainless steels in a variety of forms including billet, castings and pressings would be advantageous.
  • Ability to operate computer equipment for data purposes.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and engineering quality plans.
  • Ability to use a variety of measuring equipment.

Experience and Knowledge:

  • Experience working with stainless steels and programming CNC controls (Fanuc/Okuma/Mazak).
  • Proficiency in setting up, operating, and adjusting tool and fixture offsets on CNC machines.
  • Familiarity with machining stainless steels to tight tolerances.
  • Prior experience working with various forms of stainless steels (e.g., billet, castings, pressings) is advantageous.
  • Types of CNC machinery you will be expected to set and operate are;- Okuma Multus B300 Okuma Multus U4000.

Qualifications:

  • Time-served engineer or equivalent qualification.

Major Talent are recruiting a Coater Machine Operator for our highly successful client based in Altham, Lancashire. Established in 2003, our client is a leading provider of food packaging, slitting, rewinding, and film solutions to various industries worldwide, this is a brilliant opportunity for the right person.

  • Starting at £12 per hour this will increase to £13 after initial training £14 per hour upon full training completion, plus a nightshift allowance of £15 per night.
  • Full-time, both days and nights with 2 weeks of night shifts out of every 6 weeks.
  • Great working week – Monday – Thursday either 7am/7pm or 7pm/7am.
  • Permanent role for the right person.
  • Paid for 46 hours a week with overtime opportunities.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Operate Silicone Coater machines efficiently.
  • Pack products with precision, including wrapping, weighing, and palletising.
  • Accurately record data using our in-house computer system
  • Adhere to work instructions and customer specifications.
  • Prioritise tasks according to our production schedule.
  • Maintain high standards of safety, waste reduction, and quality.
  • Keep the work area clean and organised.

Key Skills Required:

  • Prior machine operating experience is essential; full training will be provided.
