Experienced Bookkeeper / Accounts Assistant

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent (37.5 hours per week)

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Bookkeeper / Accounts Assistant to join a growing and ambitious accountancy practice. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working within a supportive, close-knit team and is looking for a position that offers variety, responsibility, and opportunities for professional development.

The Role

You will play a key role in supporting a diverse portfolio of clients, ensuring accurate financial records are maintained and deadlines are met. The successful candidate will be confident working independently while also contributing to the wider success of the team.

Key Duties

  • Maintaining bookkeeping records for a variety of clients
  • Processing sales and purchase invoices, receipts, and payments
  • Completing bank reconciliations
  • Preparing and submitting VAT returns in accordance with HMRC requirements
  • Assisting with the preparation of accounts
  • Providing support with general accounting and finance-related tasks
  • Ensuring compliance with current accounting regulations and standards
  • Updating client records and maintaining accurate files
  • Assisting with Companies House updates and general office administration

About You

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • Previous bookkeeping or accounts experience within an accountancy practice
  • A solid understanding of bookkeeping processes and VAT regulations
  • Experience using accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, or Sage
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
  • The ability to manage multiple deadlines and client requirements
  • Strong communication skills and a professional approach to client interactions
