Commissioning Engineer – HV Substations

Rate: £950 per day
We are seeking an experienced Commissioning Engineer to support the delivery and commissioning of a major HV substation project in Blantyre, Scotland.
This is a senior technical opportunity for an engineer with strong experience in HV substations, protection, control and electrical testing, taking projects through commissioning and towards energisation and handover.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead HV testing and commissioning activities across the substation.
- Commission and test HV switchgear, transformers, protection and control systems.
- Carry out primary and secondary injection testing.
- Test protection schemes, interlocks, trip circuits and control systems.
- Support SCADA/RTU and communications commissioning.
- Fault-find and resolve technical issues during commissioning.
- Review drawings, protection settings and commissioning documentation.
- Work closely with the project, construction, SAP and client teams through to energisation and handover.
- Produce accurate commissioning and test documentation.
About You
- Proven experience as an HV Commissioning Engineer within substations or power infrastructure.
- Posses SPEN tickets.
- Strong knowledge of protection & control and HV electrical systems.
- Experience with 11kV, 33kV and/or 132kV substations.
- Practical experience with primary/secondary injection and protection relay testing.
- Able to read and interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams and protection drawings.
- Experience working within Scottish Power Projects, ICP, National Grid or major electrical infrastructure environments is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of HV safety, commissioning procedures and energisation requirements.
