About the Role

In this hands-on position, you’ll be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and operation of hydrogen power systems, ensuring reliable, efficient, and safe performance on customer sites. The role suits someone with a strong electrical background, mechanical aptitude, and a proactive approach to problem-solving in a fast-moving, dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Installation & Maintenance: Carry out a variety of onsite Work Orders, including the installation, operation, maintenance, and hydrogen changeovers of Hydrogen Power Units (HPUs).
  • Emergency Response: Join the on-call rota to action emergency work orders and support critical situations.
  • Fault-Finding: Perform advanced fault finding on electrical and mechanical systems, ensuring swift and accurate resolutions.
  • Power Distribution Support: Assist in the growth of our power distribution service, including setting up and testing electrical circuits on customer sites.
  • Electrical Testing & Inspections: Conduct electrical testing and inspections while adhering to reporting and safety requirements.
  • AC & DC Systems: Work with both AC and DC systems, including inspecting and swapping out batteries.
  • Problem Solving: Demonstrate strong analytical skills to solve complex technical issues independently.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Produce accurate supporting inspection reports and clearly communicate technical issues to stakeholders.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with Safe Systems of Work and safety regulations at all times.
  • Flexibility: Be adaptable to changing customer requirements and travel frequently to different locations across the UK and internationally.
  • Shift Work: Our HPUs operate 24/7, so you must be willing to work outside of regular hours, including weekends.

Ideal candidates will meet all of the following qualification criteria:

  • Passion for Renewables: Demonstrated passion for zero-emission and renewable energy technologies.
  • Technical Training: Recognised technical qualification in an electrical discipline (e.g., JIB-recognised UK Level 3 Apprenticeship standard).
  • ECS Card: Eligible for or holding an ECS Installation Electrician Gold Card.
  • BS7671 Qualification: Hold a recognised BS7671:2018 (18th Edition) qualification.
  • AM2: Successful completion of AM2.
  • Test & Inspection: City & Guilds 2391 Test and Inspection qualification.
  • CompEx Certification: CompEx Ex01-Ex04 certification.
  • Authorised Person Experience: HV/LV Authorised Person experience.
  • Battery Installation: Battery Installation & Maintenance Course (BIMC) certification.
  • Health & Safety Awareness: Operational Health and Safety Awareness for Standby Battery Systems.
  • Temporary Electrical Systems: Experience working with Temporary Electrical Systems (BS 7909).
  • Higher Education: HND in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or degree in an engineering-related discipline.
  • Software Familiarity: Familiarity with Electrical Design and Certification Software.
  • Safety Passport: CCNSG Safety Passport.
  • Gas Systems Experience: Experience working around high-pressure gas systems.
  • Educational Requirements: Five or more GCSEs, including English and Maths at grade 4 (C) or above.

Additional Experience & Skills:

  • AC & DC Systems: Proven experience working with AC and DC systems, including UPS systems and batteries.
  • Electromechanical Expertise: Ability to repair and install electromechanical equipment.
  • Problem Solving: Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make independent decisions under pressure.
  • Independent Working: Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong attention to documentation and following safe, structured work procedures.
  • Computer Skills: Proficient in MS Office and Microsoft Teams, and able to use these on laptops, smartphones, and tablets.
  • Permit to Work: Experience using a Permit to Work (PTW) system.
  • Driving Licence: Full, valid UK driving licence.
  • Theoretical & Practical Knowledge: Must demonstrate both a strong theoretical and practical electrical background (pre-requisite for this role).
