Agricultural Mechanic / Tractor Technician

Contract: Temp to Perm (via agency initially)
Salary: £30,000 – £40,000 per annum (DOE)
Hours: To be confirmed
Location: York – rural location – ideally own transport but there is a train station nearby

The Opportunity

We are seeking a practical, hands-on Agricultural Mechanic / Tractor Technician to support the servicing and repair of an in-house fleet of agricultural machinery.

For the right candidate, an initial pre-induction will be arranged. This will allow the individual to look around the site and be introduced to the Maintenance department prior to starting.

Subject to agreement by both parties, the role will initially be worked through an agency, with the intention of moving into a full-time permanent position in the future should the candidate prove suitable.

About the Business

The role is within a long-established nursery business operating in the horticultural sector, with its own on-site agricultural machinery. Much of the equipment includes older, well-maintained machinery, requiring a practical and mechanically minded approach.

You’ll be working as part of a small maintenance team, where reliability, hands-on experience, and a willingness to learn are valued.

Salary & Progression

This position offers a broad salary range of £30,000-£40,000, depending on experience and suitability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Servicing and repairing agricultural machinery and tractors
  • Carrying out routine servicing and spot repairs
  • Working from service sheets and maintenance schedules
  • Diagnosing mechanical faults
  • Communicating with managers and the maintenance team as required

Skills & Experience

  • Strong practical knowledge of tractor servicing and repairs
  • Agricultural background advantageous
  • Experience with older Massey Ferguson tractors desirable
  • JCB Loadall experience beneficial but not essential
  • MIG welding experience useful but not essential
  • Basic computer skills helpful (training can be provided)
  • Reliable, mechanically minded, and comfortable working with older machinery
