Start date: As soon as possible or September 2026

School Staffing Solutions are working with an alternative provision in Nottingham who require an SEN Teacher. You’ll work with pupils who have often felt let down by mainstream education – young people who need someone who can teach and truly connect.

You’ll deliver high‑quality teaching across a broad curriculum, with knowledge of Maths at KS3/KS4 along with Functional Skills being particularly advantageous. Additional subject strengths or personal interests are welcomed; they help us offer a rich, engaging and flexible learning experience.

What Teaching Looks Like Here

  • Small groups of 3-6 learners, allowing you to build meaningful relationships and tailor learning effectively.
  • Some 1:1 teaching, especially to support transition into group learning.
  • TA support available, including 1:1 targeted work under your direction and TA allocation for groups of 4-6 where needed.
  • Adaptive, relational teaching that prioritises engagement, wellbeing and progress.
  • Holistic curriculum delivery, blending academic, personal and life‑skills learning.
  • Manageable planning and marking, with a strong emphasis on creativity, innovation and pupil voice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set ambitious, personalised targets and track progress using robust baseline assessments.
  • Deliver engaging lessons that support academic, personal and wellbeing outcomes.
  • Use relational and restorative approaches to behaviour and engagement.
  • Create safe, inclusive and purposeful learning environments.
  • Work closely with specialist staff, families and external agencies to support reintegration or next‑step pathways.
  • Contribute to curriculum planning, resource development and whole‑team approaches.
  • Model high‑level safeguarding practice at all times.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), PGCE or equivalent.
  • Ability to teach a specialist subject and contribute to wider curriculum areas.
  • A reflective practitioner committed to professional development.
  • A driver (due to the nature of the role).
  • Experience in special or alternative provision is desirable but not essential – the right mindset matters most.
  • Confidence using relational and restorative behaviour strategies.

Benefits:

  • Enhanced pension scheme
  • Staff Referral Scheme
  • Enhanced maternity and paternity pay
  • Access to a blue light discount card
  • Fully funded training and qualifications for all colleagues
  • Enhanced pay scales based on experience and qualifications
  • Employee benefits scheme such as wellbeing app and a range of discounts
  • Life assurance
