Our client is seeking an experienced CNC Miller Programmer Setter to join their manufacturing team on a permanent basis. This is a hands-on role working with Fanuc machinery, offering a salary of £35,000 to £39,000 depending on experience. The successful candidate will work a rotating shift pattern, typically Monday to Thursday 07:30-16:30, with an early finish on Friday at 12:30, or an alternative early shift rotation with the same Friday finish.

  • Program and set up CNC milling operations on Fanuc machinery with precision and efficiency
  • £35,000 to £39,000, with potential for discussion at £18-£19 per hour for candidates with five years’ experience
  • Permanent role in a 37-person engineering operation with a structured shift pattern and Friday early finish

Preferred Requirements

  • Minimum five years’ experience as a CNC Miller Programmer Setter or equivalent role
  • Proven expertise in programming and setting up Fanuc CNC milling machinery
  • Strong understanding of tooling, feeds, speeds, and machining tolerances
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and work to tight specifications
  • Reliable and flexible approach to shift work, including early starts and rotating patterns

Job description:

Major Recruitment are currently recruiting Machine Operatives on behalf of a leading global manufacturing company based in Chadderton.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established manufacturer who excel in their industry.

Previous machine operating experience within a manufacturing environment is essential. CNC experience would be advantageous, but full training will be provided.

The Role

As a Machine Operative, you will work within a clean room manufacturing environment operating specialist machinery and ensuring products are produced to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operating and monitoring manufacturing machinery including ply cutting and conversion machines
  • Cutting materials to precise measurements and specifications
  • Reading and interpreting technical drawings and work instructions
  • Carrying out quality inspections on materials and finished products
  • Reporting machinery faults or maintenance issues promptly
  • Maintaining high standards of health & safety and using PPE correctly
  • Supporting production targets while ensuring quality standards are met

Pay Rate: £13.16 per hour with further pay increased once trained and employed on a permanent contract

Contract Type: Temporary to permanent (12 weeks maximum working via agency)

Shift Patterns Available:

Rotating Shift Pattern

  • Monday to Friday
  • 6:00am – 2:10pm / 2:00pm – 10:10pm (rotating weekly)

Key Responsibilities

  • Programme, set and operate CNC milling machines

  • Create, edit and optimise CNC programmes using CAD/CAM software and machine controls

  • Manufacture first-off, one-off and batch components to engineering drawings

  • Select appropriate tooling, fixtures and workholding solutions

  • Carry out tool changes, offsets and machine set-ups

  • Perform first-off inspections and in-process quality checks

  • Inspect finished components using precision measuring equipment including verniers, micrometers, bore gauges and height gauges

  • Identify and implement programme improvements to reduce cycle times and improve productivity

  • Maintain programme documentation and machine records

  • Work closely with the production team to ensure quality and delivery targets are achieved

  • Support continuous improvement and Lean Manufacturing initiatives

  • Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment in accordance with Health & Safety procedures

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience as a CNC Miller

  • Experience programming, setting and operating CNC milling machines

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings

  • Strong understanding of precision machining techniques and tolerances

  • Experience using a range of precision measuring equipment

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Strong problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Desirable

  • CAD/CAM programming experience

  • Experience with Haas, Matsuura, Hurco, Mazak or Fanuc controls

  • Engineering apprenticeship or equivalent engineering qualification

  • Experience within a precision engineering or subcontract machining environment

  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles
