Controls Design Engineer

This UK leader of bespoke measuring equipment is looking for a Controls Design Engineer to join them for a permanent position in Coventry.

You will work with our Controls Manager and alongside our Mechanical Design Engineers and Technicians on a daily basis as projects are taken from the initial concept through to testing and then delivery. This will encompass all activities throughout the design process including:

  • Understanding and interpreting customer requirements
  • The invention of novel ideas (concepts) to meet customer requirements.
  • Critical appraisal of yours and others designs within the design team to ensure robustness of design.
  • PLC software design using structured text in Siemens TIA Portal
  • Windows software design in C++
  • Electrical system design and layout using ePlan electrical software.
  • Support of technicians in the assembly and testing of your designs
  • Work from documentation to create cables, build electrical units, build and test PC systems and occasionally wire cabinets

Key requirements

  • You’ll hold an HND/degree in a relevant engineering discipline
  • Have experience writing structured text software for PLC’s or C++
  • Have experience in electrical systems design
  • Experience of fault finding on electrical systems
  • Good general engineering understanding and knowledge
  • An aptitude for problem solving and the ability to develop solutions for complex problems

Hours Of Work

  • Mon – Friday
  • 8.30 – 5pm

Hamilton Woods Associates are working with an exclusive client based in the West Midlands that are expanding within their broad finance team. The Statutory, VAT & Reporting Accountant works across multiple disciplines and functions due to the nature of this multi-faceted business.

The Statutory, VAT & Reporting Accountant will be responsible for the preparation and the submission of both UK and Overseas legal entity statutory reporting under local GAAP (including but not restricted to IFRS, UK GAAP and Swiss GAAP amongst others) and other regulatory reporting where required locally.

The role will act as a key contact between the business and external authorities and auditors to resolve queries and issues. The role will also act as support and cover for the VAT returns preparation and submission (including corresponding payments to local authorities across the EAME region); related balance sheet account reconciliations (VAT and Current Tax) and monthly intrastats reporting.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Timely preparation and submission of statutory reporting in accordance with local GAAP
  • Key point of contact between the business and local authorities
  • Establish strong relationship with tax team and external tax advisors
  • Managing the relationship with external auditors
  • Timely preparation and submission of VAT returns and corresponding preparation of paperwork for payment
  • Preparation of balance sheet reconciliations to a very high standard
  • Completion of intrastats reporting and other regulatory reporting
  • Supporting the manager with common processes, to drive efficiency and quality improvements within team
  • Supporting the manager and team with other adhoc projects as and when required.

Skills/Qualifications required:

  • A relevant professional accounting qualification (ACA).
  • Understanding of overseas legislation/ requirements (including international VAT compliance)
  • Technical understanding of local GAAP vs US GAAP
  • Dealing and managing stakeholders remotely (dealing with stakeholders whose first language may not be English)
  • Knowledge of the business to assist with the analytical review process and preparing complex balance sheet reconciliations.

The Head of Financial Reporting will lead the Regional Consolidation and Reporting team while managing and coordinating the month and quarter-end closing processes for the International region. In addition, this role will be responsible for the coordination of the monthly and quarterly submissions of the Income Statement, Balance Sheet, and Cash flow to Corporate headquarters. This role will be a primary contact point for Corporate, Internal, and External auditors.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Ability to drive positive leadership while supporting the finance team
  • Building a positive relationship with the consolidation team that fosters collaboration and knowledge sharing to drive continuous improvement
  • Responsible for the review and issuing of the International region cashflow, International region Preliminary Sales Reports and draft International region Actuals Reports
  • Responsible for coordinating all International region loads into Onestream and controlling all late International region loads into Onestream.
  • Responsible for ongoing peer review of balance sheet reconciliation work being carried out throughout the region.
  • Strong focus on analytical review of the reporting packs, ensuring more valuable information is provided to the business in a timely manner.
  • Liaise with business to understand their reporting requirements, ensuring relevant information is included in the issued reports.
  • Responsible for coordinating all International region quarterly reports to Corporate headquarters.
  • Responsible for the SOX controls over the month-end close process.
  • Involvement in other ad hoc projects as and when required support the Finance Director.

Skills/Qualifications required:

  • A relevant professional accounting qualification (ACCA, ACA)
  • Good knowledge of consolidation account reporting, and the month-end close process. US GAAP and SOX knowledge would be an advantage
  • Knowledge of Onestream and SAP to identify and resolve queries and review consolidation information would be an advantage
  • Excellent people management skills are required to liaise with other finance and non-finance teams in both the International and other regional locations regarding base loads, consolidation requirements etc.
  • Experience of continuous improvement to processes
  • Excellent customer-focused skills

Technical Accountant – IFRS Specialist

Temporary – Day Rate – £350 Per day – 12 months+

Reporting to the Head of Accounting, the Group Technical Accounting Specialist is responsible for ensuring that the Group follows best practices in IFRS and stays abreast of developments in this field.

This Technical assignment plays a vital role in managing the risks and opportunities inherent in complex and dynamic accounting rules. He/she devises practical ways for the Group to comply with these rules and proactively identifies opportunities to improve and simplify working practices in this area.


Key accountabilities
– Technical Accountant

  • Support the budgeting and forecasting process of the Group.
  • Act as key accounting adviser to the Group during the annual external auditing and statutory accounts process.
  • Review current technical accounting papers and policies
  • Draft new accounting policies under IFRS
  • Lead on implementation of IFRS15
  • Main point of contact with our external consultants on all issues
  • Review and prepare new revenue policies across wholesale agreements, contracts, distribution, promotion, subscriptions, and discounts.
  • Identify ways to streamline, simplify or otherwise optimise accounting policies throughout the Group, and more generally contribute towards a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Maintain an excellent level of technical accounting expertise, with a particular focus on developments in International Financial Reporting Standards.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders and advisers.
  • Provide in-house training on accounting matters to other members of the Finance team.
  • Perform reviews of Balance Sheet reconciliations.
  • Support development of business case requests for additional resources and funding
  • Support in the recruitment, induction, and training of team members.
  • Attend and contribute to management/department meetings where required
  • Any other ad hoc work required by the Head of Accounting

Skills & experience – Technical Accountant

  • Deep understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards, including, but not limited to IFRS 16, IFRS 9
  • Experience of Finance systems
