We are working with a leading plant hire business in Hemel Hempstead who are looking for a confident, hands-on Service Manager to lead from the front in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.

This isn’t a role for someone who wants to sit behind a desk, it’s for a proactive leader who thrives on pace, takes ownership, and knows how to drive performance across a large engineering team.

You will be responsible for a fleet of circa 1,200 units and leading a team of 25 fitters, including mobile engineers, ensuring everything runs efficiently, safely, and without delay.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Taking full ownership of the service department and driving performance daily
  • Leading, motivating, and developing a large team of fitters and engineers
  • Keeping a large fleet operational, compliant, and ready to meet customer demand
  • Managing servicing, breakdowns, inspections, and major repairs
  • Working closely with the Workshop Supervisor to keep operations running smoothly
  • Driving efficiency, reducing downtime, and identifying cost-saving opportunities
  • Maintaining high standards of health & safety and compliance
  • Communicating clearly with your team through briefings and toolbox talks

What we’re looking for:

  • A proven Service / Workshop / Engineering Manager within plant hire or similar
  • A strong leader who can manage people, performance, and pressure
  • Someone who thrives in a busy, fast-moving environment
  • Organised, decisive, and solutions-focused
  • Comfortable juggling multiple priorities without losing control of the detail
  • Plant or construction equipment background highly desirable
  • NVQ Level 3 in Plant Maintenance (or equivalent) a bonus

LGV Drivers Required | Hemel Hempstead | Any 5 out of 7 | AM & PM Shifts available|

(4.30-5am Start times)

£20.04 p/h Basic | £30.05 p/h Overtime| BH Dpouble time £40.08 – Bonuses Available

Extra £3 an hour on a saturday, Extra £5 an hour on a Sunday. Additional night rates.

We’re currently recruiting experienced LGV Drivers for AM or PM shift work, based in Hemel Hempstead. with one of the UK’s leading major retail brands. This is a fantastic opportunity to secure consistent work, great pay, and long-term stability with a well-established operation.

The Role

  • Shift: AM & PM Shift available

  • Start Times: AM Typically between 4.30-5.00am (may vary slightly depending on delivery schedules)

  • PM Typically between 11am-5.00pm (may vary slightly depending on delivery schedule they will keep the swing time as close together as possible)

  • Shift Length: 8-10 hours per day

  • Work Type:

    • Store-to-store deliveries

    • Occasional trunk runs between distribution centres (PM Shifts)

Pay & Benefits

  • £20.04 per hour – Basic Rate

  • £30.05 per hour – Overtime (after FTE 42 or 45 hours dependiong on rota)

  • Bonuses

    • Weekend and unsociable hours bonus every week

What We’re Looking For

  • Valid LGV Licence with minimum 1 year’s driving experience

  • no more than 6 penalty points

  • Age 21+ (insurance requirement)

  • Full UK Driving Licence, Digital Tacho Card & CPC

  • Ability to complete and pass a driving assessment (theory and practical)

  • A reliable, safety-focused driver with a professional attitude.
