We are working with a growing tool hire business across London and the Home Counties

The Role

As part of the workshop team, you will be responsible for fault-finding, repairs and maintenance of a wide range of electrical and mechanical equipment, including:

  • 110V and cordless power tools
    * Site equipment
    * Petrol and 2-stroke equipment
    * Diesel plant
    * Air tools
    * Hydraulic equipment
    * Mechanical equipment

About You

You will have previous experience working with mechanical and/or electrical equipment, including diesel, petrol, hydraulics, pneumatics or electrics, or have recently completed a relevant apprenticeship in a mechanical or electrical discipline.

Experience may also include plant, power tools, powered access, generators, pumps, lifting equipment, or similar mechanical environments.

You will also bring:

Hours

Monday-Friday, 7:30am-5:00pm

Salary

£30,000 – £45,000 per annum (DOE)

Are you an experienced Hire Controller who knows how to keep a busy hire desk running smoothly? Do you enjoy building strong customer relationships, solving problems, and being the person your team and customers can rely on?

We are currently recruiting for a Senior Hire Controller to join a successful and growing independent hire business based in Park Royal.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced hire desk professional from a tool, plant, access, or equipment hire background who is looking for more responsibility, greater involvement, and the chance to make a real impact within a busy depot environment.

What will you be doing?

As a Senior Hire Controller, you will be at the heart of the depot operation, managing customer relationships, supporting the hire desk team, and ensuring every hire runs smoothly from enquiry through to completion.

You will be responsible for:

  • Becoming a trusted point of contact for key customers, providing expert advice and ensuring an outstanding service experience.
  • Managing the complete hire cycle, including enquiries, quotations, contracts, extensions, off-hires, exchanges, and account queries.
  • Handling more complex customer requirements and finding practical solutions quickly.
  • Working closely with transport, workshop, and yard teams to coordinate deliveries, collections, and equipment availability.
  • Building strong customer relationships to encourage repeat business and long-term partnerships.
  • Identifying opportunities to grow accounts and support business development.
  • Helping improve depot processes, systems, and ways of working.
  • Assisting the management team with operational challenges and ensuring a smooth-running hire operation.

What are we looking for?

  • Proven experience within a Hire Controller, Senior Hire Controller, or Hire Desk role.
  • Background within tool hire, plant hire, access hire, equipment hire, or a similar industry.
  • Strong knowledge of hire processes and customer account management.
  • Confident communication skills with the ability to build relationships at all levels.
  • Experience supporting colleagues, mentoring others, or taking ownership of key tasks.
  • Excellent organisation skills with the ability to manage a busy workload.
  • Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Good IT skills and confidence using hire systems.
  • A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and a genuine passion for delivering great customer service.

  • Salary: £34,000 – £38,000 depending on experience
