Project Engineer – SCADA / Control Systems

A Project Engineer with experience of delivering SCADA / Control Systems solutions is sought by a Tyneside Engineering business

Working in a Projects team you will be responsible for managing the design, integration, testing and commissioning of automation projects throughout the entire project life-cycle.

Salary is up to £50K + benefits

The role will involve interpreting clients’ requirements, to design, engineer, integrate, test, and deliver the solution in a professional and timely manner, interfacing with customers on all technical elements and schedules and engaging with subcontractors and external suppliers for the delivery of projects.

Key responsibilities will be to: –

  • Designing, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of PLC, SCADA, and HMI systems in automation projects.
  • Produce specifications / drawings and agree with customers.
  • Integrate and configure software, hardware, communications, and external devices.
  • Drive projects to achieve an “on-time” project delivery, within budget.
  • Project engineering, configuration, integration, and test.
  • Assist in the preparation and approvals of bills of materials and manufacturing drawings and where necessary interface with suppliers.
  • Prepare project documentation such as design specifications, factory acceptance tests, site acceptance tests and operation and maintenance manuals.
  • Participate in project meetings and assist in the scheduling of activities.
  • Undertake FAT, SAT, site installation and commissioning activities where necessary.

To succeed in this varied and interesting role you will need the following skills, experience and personal qualities

  • ONC/HNC in Electrical / Electronic / Software Engineering or related subject
  • Proven track record of delivering projects, preferably within SCADA and Automation sectors; ideally within the LV/MV/HV Electricity Transmission & Distribution Industry.
  • Knowledge of communications systems and SCADA protocols such as Modbus, DNP, and IEC 61850.
  • Experience of implementation using PLC logic.
  • Experience of configuration of HMI software
  • Ability to work independently and within a small team environment.
  • Excellent internal and external communication skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Be willing to travel for site testing and commissioning work when required.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Can-do’ attitude – enthusiastic and willing to learn.

Design & Development Engineer (Pumps or Hydraulics)

A Mechanical Design Engineer with experience of designing pumps, rotating equipment or high-pressure hydraulic systems is needed by a successful engineering company

You will be working within an established research and development team creating concept designs and building prototypes for the companies core product suite.

Key responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Produce 3D models and drawings
  • Coordinate design and development activities with the product management team to ensure finished designs are in line with the product roadmap
  • Preparing design documentation for production (component design, technical drawings)
  • Contributing to design reviews

  • Prototype design build & test

The ideal candidate will be an experienced Design Engineer with a strong understanding of manufacturing processes including casting, forging, machining, and metal fabrication. Pump Design Engineer

A Mechanical Design Engineer with experience of using CMM equipment and the ability to produce designs by reverse engineering legacy / obsolete products & equipment is sought by a growing North East based company

You will work with a variety of clients producing technical solutions to complex engineering projects, the main focus being on providing a full reverse engineering package for parts. You will report directly to the Engineering Manager whilst supporting a busy production team, as a Reverse Design engineer you will capture detail from damaged, worn out and obsolete rotating equipment via various 3D scanning methods, then create models from captured date leading to 2D drawings for manufacture or repair.

Key responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Use 3D scanning technology to create 3D CAD models from complex samples
  • Produce 3D models using a portable CMM (Faro Arm) and portable white light laser scanner
  • Using customer information/samples to create 3D models
  • First principal measuring to create 3D models
  • Produce 3D models and drawings in Solidworks
  • Build full digital models of with all mating features to establish fits and clearances
  • Preparing design documentation for production (component design, technical drawings)
  • Contributing to design reviews

The ideal candidate will be an experienced Design Engineer with a strong understanding of manufacturing processes including casting, forging, machining, and metal fabrication. You will also need excellent 2D and 3D design skills with experience of Solidworks / design works / EPDM Vault and be experienced in the use of CMM, Faro Arm and 3D scanning technology.

Duties and tasks will include:

  • Detail the necessary production equipment, raw materials (building BOM’s) and labour needs for production.
  • Submit reports on throughput.
  • Identify priority orders and plan accordingly to meet customer requirements.
  • Work with Management to address any issues, setbacks or quality control concerns with the production process.
  • Support the Purchasing team to anticipate raw material demands.
  • Facilitate contract review meeting, discussing new production methods or ways to reduce production costs and increase company profits, as well as taking notes and assigning tasks

  • Other process administrative tasks relating to production planning and general operations.

A Mechanical Design Engineer with Inventor experience is sought by a busy County Durham based Engineering company

As a Mechanical Design Engineer you will have the following responsibilities: –

  • Use of Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD and sketching to provide conceptual and detailed designs.
  • Analysis of mechanical systems using hand calculations and non-linear FEA with ANSYS.
  • Working closely with colleagues across the business, take ownership of design development, manufacturing, testing and take appropriate corrective actions where required.
  • Efficient and rapid development of new product technologies, following a formal process applied to new products, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Evaluating the performance of designs using FMEA and other techniques.
  • Leading design reviews to ensure designs meet the required specification and industry standards.
  • Technical document writing to support the Development, Sales, Project, and Manufacturing phases.
  • Creation and checking of calculations, manufacturing drawings and general arrangements to support the products through their life cycle.
  • Management of production tooling CAD and providing manufacturing support

We are looking for someone with professional experience and knowledge of AutoDesk Inventor or similar CAD design tool and proven experience within a mechanical design role. You will need experience in product development, design and structural analysis and have worked with a variety of materials including metals and polymers. You will ideally be degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering and be proficient with Mathcad and/or Excel for engineering calculations and have a good understanding of mechanical engineering principles (statics,
thermal, fatigue etc).

An FEA Engineer is sought by a Darlington based company to carry out ongoing products and project based finite element analysis work

As a Finite Element Analyst you will be involved in identifying customer analysis requirements, developing solutions to engineering problems as well as leading and monitoring analysis on live projects and contributing towards the ongoing continuous improvement of analysis techniques.

The candidate must have relevant experience in managing all aspects of a project, including clients, resources, quality, safety, risks, budget, schedules and deliverables and be capable of solving problems and adapting to changing circumstances.

  • A qualification in project management or equivalent with several years of relevant, broad engineering experience, and management / leadership experience
  • Experience in managing multiple concurrent projects is essential as is the ability to deliver them on time whilst maintaining professional and technical standards.
  • You will have good business judgment, be able to define priorities and focus on processes and people management to guarantee on-time completion within budget.
  • Excellent client-facing and internal communication skills, planning and organisational skills and analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Management and leadership skills, commercial awareness, teamworking skills, negotiation & diplomacy and the ability to motivate people are key qualities that you will need to succeed within the role.
