Trainee Technician £28k – £30k inclusive of shift premium

AM – Mon – Thu 6am – 2pm Fri 6am – 11am
PM – Mon – Thu 2pm – 10pm Fri 11am – 4pm

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in responding appropriately to unexpected and/or continuing situations, which develop in the work environment.
  • Assist the team to deliver departmental KPI’s and reduce outstanding work.
  • Follow up orders and ensure spare parts are ordered which require fitting to the machines.
  • Assist in analysing history on equipment and breakdowns. Provide technical assistance to ensure shortest possible machine downtime, recording and creating manuals & drawings to help early machine recovery.
  • Attend departmental meetings with team members to discuss projects, issues, team briefings etc.
  • Process, review, and expedite work orders, modification and equipment drawings, schematics, check sheets, job instructions, and calibrations records.

Skills & Abilities

  • An understanding of maintenance policies, procedures, and terms.
  • Project management understanding with an emphasis to improve reliability.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to undertake a high level of activity.
  • Respond effectively and perform basic arithmetic accurately and quickly.
  • Good IT skills
  • Good organisational and time management skills.

Qualifications

  • Recognised engineering apprenticeship.
  • Minimum ONC or City & Guilds level 3 or equivalent (Technical Certificate, etc.)
  • Time served apprenticeship
  • Familiarisation with the use of machine tools

Rail Maintenance Technician

A Maintenance Technician is needed to work within a busy Rail depot

THE JOB

The role will involve the maintenance and repair of rail freight wagons and associated equipment at various sites in the East Midlands with some work at other UK sites when needed. You will investigate failures, diagnose faults and undertake rectification to prevent recurrence, report all maintenance faults and repairs in accordance with company and customers procedures and standards and ensure all maintenance activities comply with them. You will also operate the Switch and Crossing wagons when necessary on Network Rail Infrastructure.

EXPERIENCE

The ideal candidate will be a time-served maintenance technician with good electrical & mechanical maintenance skills. Experience of rolling stock maintenance and repairs is essential as is the ability to maintain, identify and source problems and to provide requisite repair. You will be working as part of a multi-discipline team and will need a comprehensive engineering & maintenance background with a working knowledge of ISO9002 & ISO14001 quality & environmental standards an advantage. A full UK Driving Licence is required as are good customer care skills.

Any experience of working on the Network Rail infrastructure would be an advantage as would a PTS card but training will be given in these areas. You must be prepared to work in all weather conditions.

SALARY

The basic salary is £15.80 with overtime rates rising to £31.60 per hour Benefits: 25 annual plus 8 bank holidays / sickness benefit/life assurance / auto-enrolment pension scheme

Field Service Engineer

A Field Service Engineer with an Electrical background is needed by a growing engineering company

As a Field Service Engineer you will be responsible for the service, maintenance, repair and overhaul of electrical, instrumentation and mechanical systems. Your main duties will include: –

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Safe, correct, and efficient preventive and routine maintenance of equipment and machinery
  • Diagnostics of faults and issues of equipment, machinery, and systems
  • Repair of equipment, machinery (electrical & mechanical) and systems
  • Correctly disassemble, inspect, clean, replace and re-assemble mechanical assemblies
  • Installation of electro-mechanical systems in accordance with safety standards and regulations
  • Electro-mechanical system testing and commissioning
  • Completion of risk assessments, reports, and certificates
  • Equipment and machinery health checks
  • Liaise with customer about works and suggested (any) remedial actions
  • Have the knowledge, understanding and competency to identify potential regulation breaches and feedback to the office
  • Feedback to the technical team with improvement suggestions

The successful candidate will need the following skills & personal qualities

  • Electrical/electronic hands-on practical skills
  • Mechanical hands-on practical skills – maintenance experience
  • Appropriate engineering/electrical experience and training such as an apprenticeship
  • Level 3 engineering or technical qualifications (e.g. ONC/ NVQ L3/ C&G L3)
  • Full clean UK driving licence
  • Ability to pass security clearance
  • IT literate with email and MS suite such as Word and Excel
  • Ability to travel and stay overnight regularly (up to 1 week at a time with 2/3 nights typical)

This role is Field-based with 80% on site/traveling and 20% factory and would ideally suit an experienced multi-skilled maintenance technician/engineer who enjoys travelling and variety in their work, as each day provides its own challenges. You will need the ability to apply technical knowledge to solve problems, a strong safety awareness and culture, good problem-solving skills and the ability to remain composed under pressure

Benefits include overtime at 1.333 x hourly rate – weekdays (1.5 x hourly rate – weekend/bank holiday) or hours in lieu/flexitime for overtime, fully expensed travel, full product training and qualification, and long service awards.
