The Opportunity

An established and growing M&E contractor is looking for an experienced Business Development Manager to play a key role in driving commercial growth across the North East and North Yorkshire.

This is a senior, client-facing role with real autonomy. You’ll be trusted to develop your territory, open doors, build long-term relationships, and convert opportunities into profitable projects across commercial electrical, heating, and plumbing services.

If you thrive on winning work, enjoy technical conversations, and want to be part of a business that genuinely values quality and relationships – this one’s for you.

The Role

As Business Development Manager, you’ll be responsible for identifying new opportunities, developing strategic relationships, and securing commercial projects across multiple sectors, including commercial buildings, healthcare, education, and public sector environments.
You’ll work closely with technical and operational teams to shape compelling solutions and proposals, ensuring clients receive a seamless, professional experience from first conversation to project delivery – and beyond.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver a strategic business development plan for your region
  • Identify, target, and secure new commercial clients and opportunities
  • Build strong relationships with decision-makers, consultants, contractors, and stakeholders
  • Collaborate with technical teams to produce competitive, technically sound proposals
  • Negotiate contracts and close deals to achieve revenue and growth targets
  • Maintain relationships post-project to encourage repeat business and referrals
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and emerging opportunities
  • Attend industry events, networking sessions, and client meetings
  • Work alongside marketing teams on targeted campaigns to increase sector visibility

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience in business development within commercial electrical, heating, plumbing, M&E, or construction
  • A strong track record of winning work and exceeding sales targets
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Technically confident, with the ability to discuss M&E systems and project requirements
  • Understanding of industry regulations, frameworks, and procurement processes (advantageous)
  • Commercially astute with strong negotiation skills
  • Highly organised, self-motivated, and able to manage your own workload
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regionally

What’s On Offer

  • Competitive basic salary with results-driven bonus structure
  • Company car or car allowance
  • Pension scheme with employer contribution
  • 25 days annual leave
  • Long-term career progression within a growing business
  • A supportive, collaborative environment with experienced leadership and delivery teams

Ready to Make an Impact?

This is a rare opportunity to join a forward-thinking M&E contractor at an exciting stage of growth. You’ll be given the freedom to shape your market, backed by a skilled technical team that delivers quality on every project.
If you’re commercially driven, technically confident, and looking for a role where your success genuinely makes a difference – we’d love to hear from you.
