About the Role – Deputy Manager

The Deputy Manager supports the Home Manager in the overall operation and leadership of the home, ensuring high standards of care, safety, and compliance. They act as a key leader within the team, providing supervision, promoting best practice, and stepping into full managerial responsibility during the Home Manager’s absence.

Purpose of the Role:
To contribute to a safe, nurturing, and structured home where young people can thrive emotionally, socially, and educationally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for young people
  • Support day-to-day operations, routines, and safeguarding practice
  • Maintain accurate records and regulatory compliance

Requirements

  • Experience working in a children’s residential home
  • Strong safeguarding and child protection knowledge
  • Excellent communication and team leadership skills
  • Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent)
  • Experience as a Deputy Manager or strong Team Leader ready to step up
  • Experience with Ofsted inspections or therapeutic approaches beneficial

Job Description

A skilled and confident Registered Manager is required to lead a two-bed children’s home supporting young people with emotional and behavioural needs. The home is already well established and holds a “good” inspection rating. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership, child-centred values, and an ability to maintain high standards of care and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise the staff team, including rota planning and professional development.
  • Oversee all care planning and promote positive outcomes for each young person.
  • Embed the Quality Standards into everyday practice.
  • Apply knowledge of Children’s Homes Regulations and maintain regulatory compliance.
  • Build effective working relationships with external partners and advocate for young people.
  • Celebrate achievements for both staff and children.
  • Manage the home’s budget and resources responsibly.
  • Complete reports, records, and administrative tasks to a high standard.
  • Lead safeguarding practice and ensure all procedures are consistently followed.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or equivalent).
  • Minimum 2 years’ recent experience within residential childcare.
  • Proven experience managing or helping establish a children’s home.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
