Lead Design Engineer (Cranes / Lifting)

Our client is a successful engineering company who are currently looking to recruit a Lead Design Engineer who has experience with 2D and 3D draughting and modelling. Knowledge and experience in using STAAD.Pro would be an added advantage.

This is a senior role where the individual is expected to manage the day-to-day tasks of the design team and make technical decisions that best suit each project. The Lead Design Engineer is expected to check and verify the work of the other Design Engineers with final approval obtained from the Technical Director.

This role will see the individual develop concept designs into final fabricated products and equipment both for internal and external uses. As a member of the technical department, the candidate will support the expansion of the department as we seek to increase our in-house design capabilities and expand our offerings to our clients. You will be able to get involved at all levels of the business, from managing project costs to solving manufacturing problems on the shop floor. Key responsibilities (including, but not limited to the following)
* Create concept designs and working drawings with the use of 3D and 2D Autodesk packages
* Design of Lifting equipment
* Prepare internal design and fabrication documents
* Lead other design engineers and troubleshoot day to day issues within the department
* Produce project deliverables i.e. calculations, reports, drawings etc. * Assist in the scheduling of projects
* Ensure job packages are correct and are circulated in the correct manner
* Documentation control
* Assist in pricing and client quotations
* Participate in industry events and networking
* Any other relevant duties within the technical department, as directed from time to time

The role would suit an experienced Design Engineer with experience of structural designs to Eurocode 3 as a minimum. Working knowledge to BS EN 13001 and BS EN 13155 would be favourable. You will need strong 3D CAD designs as well as being able to carry out structural/ FEA analysis and hand calculations. Experience of designing cranes, excavators, lifting equipment, conveyors or offshore equipment is essential

The candidate is expected to be a Chartered Engineer registered through relevant learned institutions i.e. IMechE, IStructE.

Design & Development Engineer (Pumps or Hydraulics)

A Mechanical Design Engineer with experience of designing pumps, rotating equipment or high-pressure hydraulic systems is needed by a successful engineering company

You will be working within an established research and development team creating concept designs and building prototypes for the companies core product suite.

Key responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Produce 3D models and drawings
  • Coordinate design and development activities with the product management team to ensure finished designs are in line with the product roadmap
  • Preparing design documentation for production (component design, technical drawings)
  • Contributing to design reviews
  • Completing calculations for design validation
  • Prototype design build & test

The ideal candidate will be an experienced Design Engineer with a strong understanding of manufacturing processes including casting, forging, machining, and metal fabrication. You will also need excellent 2D and 3D design skills with experience of Solidworks. The ability to understand complex engineering specifications and experience of rotating equipment or pumps would be a strong advantage as would any FEA or CFD experience.

Pump Design Engineer

A Mechanical Design Engineer with experience of using CMM equipment and the ability to produce designs by reverse engineering legacy / obsolete products & equipment is sought by a growing North East based company

You will work with a variety of clients producing technical solutions to complex engineering projects, the main focus being on providing a full reverse engineering package for parts. You will report directly to the Engineering Manager whilst supporting a busy production team, as a Reverse Design engineer you will capture detail from damaged, worn out and obsolete rotating equipment via various 3D scanning methods, then create models from captured date leading to 2D drawings for manufacture or repair.

Key responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Use 3D scanning technology to create 3D CAD models from complex samples
  • Produce 3D models using a portable CMM (Faro Arm) and portable white light laser scanner
  • Using customer information/samples to create 3D models
  • First principal measuring to create 3D models
  • Produce 3D models and drawings in Solidworks
  • Build full digital models of with all mating features to establish fits and clearances
  • Preparing design documentation for production (component design, technical drawings)
  • Contributing to design reviews

The ideal candidate will be an experienced Design Engineer with a strong understanding of manufacturing processes including casting, forging, machining, and metal fabrication. You will also need excellent 2D and 3D design skills with experience of Solidworks / design works / EPDM Vault and be experienced in the use of CMM, Faro Arm and 3D scanning technology.

Mechanical Design Engineer

A Mechanical Design Engineer with Inventor experience is sought by a busy County Durham based Engineering company

As a Mechanical Design Engineer you will have the following responsibilities: –

  • Use of Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD and sketching to provide conceptual and detailed designs.
  • Analysis of mechanical systems using hand calculations and non-linear FEA with ANSYS.
  • Working closely with colleagues across the business, take ownership of design development, manufacturing, testing and take appropriate corrective actions where required.
  • Efficient and rapid development of new product technologies, following a formal process applied to new products, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Evaluating the performance of designs using FMEA and other techniques.
  • Leading design reviews to ensure designs meet the required specification and industry standards.
  • Technical document writing to support the Development, Sales, Project, and Manufacturing phases.
  • Creation and checking of calculations, manufacturing drawings and general arrangements to support the products through their life cycle.
  • Management of production tooling CAD and providing manufacturing support
  • Support project delivery and client interfaces with efficient delivery of engineering deliverables. Attend client meetings, presenting technical aspects of the project delivery.

We are looking for someone with professional experience and knowledge of AutoDesk Inventor or similar CAD design tool and proven experience within a mechanical design role. You will need experience in product development, design and structural analysis and have worked with a variety of materials including metals and polymers. You will ideally be degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering and be proficient with Mathcad and/or Excel for engineering calculations and have a good understanding of mechanical engineering principles (statics,
thermal, fatigue etc).

Our client is a cold storage company and a leader in developing and operating highly automated cold stores. We are the fastest growing specialist in automated cold storage, with world-class and energy efficient systems, making it stand out from conventional companies.

Our client has a global network across three continents with an ambitious growth plan underway.

The role
The role primarily involves conducting pre-planned & reactive maintenance for an automated cold store facility, operating at minus 23 degrees. Candidates must be time served multi-skilled engineers.

The shift pattern for the role is 4 on, 4 off rotating days and nights, 12 hr shifts which will include weekend and bank holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Keeping allocated PPM to date to a high standard
  • Servicing and repair of automated equipment and general estate maintenance
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained in line with suppliers’ guidelines, this will include conveyors, cranes, cooling systems and oxygen reduction.

About you

  • We need you to be a time served experienced and skilled engineer who can demonstrate thorough knowledge of proven and advanced technology and with the ability to apply that knowledge practically to ensure competitive and innovative advantage.
  • You must hold a recognised electrical qualification.
  • Experience of working with automated stacker cranes (preferred).
  • Experience of working on roller conveyor systems (preferred).
  • You will need to be proactive and independent comfortable making decisions but equally aware of when to escalate or communicate with key stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills to interface with key internal functions, key stakeholders, external regulators, auditors and outside vendors.
  • Experience of working in an automated warehouse environment preferred but not essential.
  • Be able to work at heights up to 42 metres.

Due to regulations of the equipment, and health and safety obligations there is a maximum weight limit on this role of 125KG

An FEA Engineer is sought by a Darlington based company to carry out ongoing products and project based finite element analysis work

As a Finite Element Analyst you will be involved in identifying customer analysis requirements, developing solutions to engineering problems as well as leading and monitoring analysis on live projects and contributing towards the ongoing continuous improvement of analysis techniques.

Key tasks will include

  • Leading and monitoring analysis on live projects to ensure key deliverables met on time
  • Contribute towards the ongoing continuous improvement of analysis techniques.
  • Line management, coaching/mentoring, and development of analysis engineers.
  • Writing and reviewing client proposals – recognising client requirements and identifying the most appropriate analysis to meet their needs.
  • Preparing and reviewing analysis input data – liaising with clients and the analysis team to ensure the most appropriate data is available and utilised. Building and developing analysis models and methodologies.
  • Reviewing and checking OrcaFlex analysis models built by engineering team.
  • Running simulations and interpreting results.
  • Writing and reviewing reports.
  • Attendance and presentation at relevant conferences

We are looking for someone with professional experience and knowledge of either ANSYS or ABAQUS FEA tools. Any experience of Offshore, Marine, Renewables or Subsea sectors would be an advantage. Applicants should be degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering with good communication and interpersonal skills. You will be well organised and able to coach and develop less experienced engineers.
