Welder – Flexible working hours

We are seeking a skilled Welder to join our clients team, supporting a leading engineering and fabrication company based in Hawick. Our client is renowned for producing high-quality components and assemblies, particularly for pressure vessel applications, and has a strong reputation for innovation, precision, and excellence in manufacturing. This is an excellent opportunity to work with a respected industry leader and develop your skills in a professional and supportive environment.

What’s in it for you?

  • 36.5 hours per week, paid weekly.
  • 34 days holiday per year (based on a 5-day week).
  • Weekly pay.
  • Flexible start times, typically 6:00am – 2:30pm, with a 15-minute morning break and 30-minute lunch.
  • Potential for a 4-day week after probation to reduce travel time.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Fabricate metal components to exact specifications and high standards.
  • Perform TIG and MMA welding to produce top-quality products.
  • Read and accurately follow job-specific Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
  • Work safely and efficiently to meet production schedules.
  • Adhere to standard operating procedures and safety guidelines to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Report machinery malfunctions, material issues, or discrepancies to supervisors promptly.
  • Assist with general workshop duties as required.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in welding and metal fabrication.
  • TIG and MMA welding experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Experience in a factory or workshop environment with heavy machinery and complex assemblies.
  • Physically fit and capable of manual handling tasks.
  • Strong team player with excellent communication skills.
  • Flexible and willing to take on a variety of workshop tasks.
  • Familiarity with workshop tools and equipment.

Additional Information:

  • A weld test will be required as part of the recruitment process.
  • Qualifications are specific to our client’s products; exceptional candidates may discuss pay flexibility.

This is a days shift / back shift role, and may require weekend support on occasion.

You will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and improving industrial machinery to ensure maximum efficiency and minimal downtime. Working within a team of engineers, you will play a vital role in supporting production by delivering proactive and reactive maintenance services on a variety of complex mechanical systems.

THE ROLE:

  • Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on industrial machinery.
  • Diagnose faults and conduct repairs to minimise downtime and ensure continuous production.
  • Ensure all mechanical equipment operates efficiently and to high safety standards.
  • Work closely with electrical engineers to ensure an integrated approach to maintenance and problem-solving.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance machinery reliability and production output.
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations, ensuring compliance with company policies and industry standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance work using a Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Assist in the installation and commissioning of new industrial machinery and equipment.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to production teams.

ABOUT YOU:

  • Qualified in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (NVQ Level 3, HNC, HND, or equivalent).
  • Experience in a fast paced industrial manufacturing setting.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial mechanical systems, including hydraulics, pneumatics, and conveyors.
  • Basic electrical knowledge is advantageous.
  • Experience working with Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) systems.
  • Strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills.

  • Prepare steel surfaces by cleaning, sandblasting, grinding, and applying chemical treatments to ensure proper coating adhesion.
  • Operate spray guns, brushes, rollers, and other application tools to efficiently apply coatings to various steel surfaces.
  • Mix, tint, and match paints and coatings to achieve accurate colour consistency and compatibility with existing finishes.
  • Monitor, clean, and maintain painting and sandblasting equipment, including performing routine maintenance and minor repairs.

Our client is looking for a fully skilled and experienced fire alarm engineer to BAFE standards.

Ideally candidates will be based in the Greater Manchester area as they will be covering clients and contracts in that area.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Installation, commissioning and fault finding of fire alarm systems ideally Notifier Gents and Advanced systems.
  • Some preventative maintenance servicing as required
