Prototype Engineer

K&D are delighted to be supporting our local client who are looking for a Prototype Engineer working from their site in Thame!!

Standard working hours are Monday – Friday 7.30-4 (7-12 Friday ) Occasional travel to other oversees sites. Salary circa £35K

Remit of the Role?

Providing a professional service to the Engineering teams.

Effective scheduling of prototyping and testing to ensure cost effectiveness of planning and use of this resource. Produce prototype equipment for design evaluation and test.

Feedback information and ideas for improvement to the Engineering design team. Perform in-house electrical and mechanical testing to required regulation, coordinating and support external test accesses. Help and support the development of new and existing products. Create and control test reports ad build documentation.

Job Context

Working in a workshop environment reporting to the Prototype Manager. Using various hand and machine tools to produce prototype parts and equipment. Working in electrical test labs to validate prototype builds .

Traveling to support testing at UK and oversea facilities. Attending and chairing meetings with Designers to feedback information on Prototype.

Key Accountabilities of the role?!

These will include:

Accountable for production of prototype equipment in line with design specifications.

Accountable for the continuous improvement of laboratory equipment and practices. Feedback design/manufacturing feasibility to Engineering Design team.

Collaborate with all teams within Engineering and the rest of the business to ensure successful prototype and testing – actively responsible for proactive action management, risk assessment and contributing to solution development. Experience, Knowledge and Skills

HND/HNC mechanical or electrical engineering or equivalent experience.

This role will involve the implementation of continuous improvement activities, PM and reactive maintenance work to support the Company’s manufacturing machinery as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor, in order for the Company’s ability to produce quality products in a safe and timely manner can be achieved.

Key Responsibilities:

Duties include the identification, project management and implementation of capital expenditure projects, introduction and validation of new machines, new product introduction, as well as productivity and process improvement projects. Candidates should be able to show potential for, high levels of expertise in managing multi-functional large value complex projects from product concept, design for manufacture, new product introduction to manufacturing process improvements.

  • Cell layout, manufacturing process and workstation design.
  • Materials flows, Kanban system and pull systems.
  • Project management of NPI processes and activities
  • Degree level qualification or equivalent in Manufacturing Engineering or related discipline is preferred.
