Duties;

Preventative maintenance on machines and equipment; as well as responding to emergency machine break downs throughout the plant

Determine cause of potential failure or performance deterioration, and either complete remedial work during shift or brief subsequent shift and Engineering Team Leader on issue, cause and recommended solution

Involvement with new design, installation and movements of existing machines

Overhaul and repair of machines and equipment

Ensuring machines and equipment on site are safe, working efficiently and fit for purpose

It will also involve ensuring all work is carried out within Health and Safety legislation

  • An experienced Electrical Maintenance engineer with the manufacturing industry experience

Mechanical Test Technician

A Test Technician with a mechanical / piping background is ought to support a busy R&D Team

You will be responsible for providing solutions, design input, development & verification of new components for implementation into gas, hydraulic and process systems as part of the engineering process. You will be able to understand Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID’s), fabrication drawings, system designs and GA drawings in both 2D and 3D CAD packages. You will be responsible for the testing and implementation of components into systems, including specification, purchasing, testing and verification to improve the quality and reliability of systems ready for use in the market. You will ensure that all testing and validation is completed in a safe manner and complete comprehensive test reports in accordance with company standards.

THE RIGHT PERSON

The successful candidate will have previous experience of working in a R&D working environment ideally in an engineering and/or manufacturing organisation. They will be able to demonstrate experience in reading engineering drawings, reviewing client specification and identifying quality requirements. You will ideally have experience of testing & validation and ideally have a good knowledge of pressure component standards such as PED, ASME VIII etc and hazardous environments (ATEX etc). Good communication and documentation skills are essential. Ideally you will be educated to HND / Degree level. Experience of working with hydraulics, chemical or gas flow systems would be advantageous.

Control Systems Engineer / PLC Programmer

Control Systems Design Engineer / PLC Programmer – £40-45K + Good benefits package

A Control Systems Design Engineer with experience of designing and developing PLC based control solutions using Siemens TIA Portal is needed by an expanding Engineering company.

Your main responsibility will be for the programming of the control solutions associated to specialist systems. This will include

  • PLC programming supporting Electrical concept system design including drafting diagrams and sourcing components.
  • Write and Document Programs
  • Produce flow diagrams
  • Write robust programs using automation software (Siemens TIA primarily, others beneficial)
  • Understand Programming languages (such as Ladder Logic, ST, SFC, Function Block)
  • Create HMI and SCADA projects
  • Prepare documentation for the program’s intended use as well as any safety related instructions
  • Support standardization of programs
  • Support operation and maintenance manuals/documentation

You will also be responsible for determining test criteria, software / system testing, installation and technical support.

YOUR SKILLS

The ideal candidate will be HND / Degree qualified with around 5 years’ experience of developing PLC based control systems. You will also need to be able to take a client specification and develop a suitable software solution from first principles and create the code from scratch. Good analytical and troubleshooting skills are essential and you will need to be able to anticipate and avoid any potential issues that may arise during the development process. A good knowledge of Electrical Engineering & Standards and electrical & software engineering principles is essential as are good interpersonal skills, the ability to use a wide range of software packages and draw and interpret Flow diagrams (Visio etc).

Facilities Technician

Salary: £30.000

Hours: 39 hours; Mon – Thurs: 7.30 am – 4.30 pm (with a 30 minute unpaid break) and Fri: 7.30 am – 12.30 pm.

Location: Houghton Le Spring

Key Tasks / Responsibilities

  • Support the development and maintaining of a world class facility
  • Complete internal improvement actions including fabrication, re-layout of areas, etc.
  • Timely completion of works order requests to a high standard
  • Ensure compliance to required standards and regulations
  • Liaise & management of required contractors to support repair & improvement works (including contractor induction, PO process, etc.)
  • Deliver facilities requirements in line with budget expectations
  • Upkeep & general maintenance TPM’s of all build & shipping pallets
  • Administration of purchase orders for facilities requirements, production tooling & housekeeping consumables
  • Support continuous improvement activities as required throughout the plant
  • Comply with all HSE practices & policies
  • Assist with weekly fire alarm & emergency light testing

Required Skills and Experiences

The team’s primary responsibility is the calibration and maintenance of the test facility measurement and control systems to ensures quality data output is maintained and to assist engine development and verification. The team is additionally responsible for the upgrade and commissioning of the multi-million-pound engine test facility, which has world-class performance, emissions, and mechanical validation capabilities.

Team members interact with the wider Test Facilities Engineering team as well as other departments within GED and the wider Industrial Power Systems Division.

The ideal candidate needs the knowledge, base skills, and experience to be able to calibrate, repair and maintain the electronic control systems, instrumentation, and electrical plant within the GED facility to the high standard required to keep the company at the forefront of today’s technology. This also includes the ability to maintain records, read and interpret technical drawings and work with engineers, contractors, and colleagues to design, install, commission, and maintain new, refurbished, and modified equipment.

Operating in a fast paced and professional technical environment, this role will provide an interesting variety of responsibilities and activities, with the opportunity to work both as part of a wider team and independently utilising initiative.
