Production / Workshop Team Leader

A Production / Workshop Team Leader with Electrical Switchgear, Control Panel or Special Purpose Machinery is needed to work for a small to medium sized engineering business near Derby

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Direct and coordinate production activities in the workshop to ensure quality, safety, and quantity specifications are met
  • Reviews production schedules with the Production Manager, working to identify future needs and issues to include ensuring parts and supplies are available,
  • Ensure production goals are met and products are made to specifications.
  • Liaise with technical or administrative staff to resolve production problems.
  • Proactively work to eliminate waste and add value to the workshop processes.
  • Identifies safety, quality and production related issues, assists with root cause analysis and validation / corrective actions.
  • Ensures assigned employees adhere to all relevant health and safety regulations and perform work practices that are safe.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience of wiring and assembling either switchgear, control panels or Special Purpose Machinery
  • A qualification in Electrical Engineering
  • Some experience of supervision and leadership in a workshop / project based manufacturing setting.
  • Knowledge and understanding of assembly methods for mechanical and electrical components.
  • An understanding of set up and maintenance of manufacturing processes
  • Familiarity with the development and implementation of work instructions.
  • Experience of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement would be an advantage
  • Proven ability to work on own initiative, problem solve and present potential solutions.
  • A clear focus, understanding and desire to drive improvement across Safety, Quality and Production.
  • Ability to maintain a tactful, orderly working relationship with others.

Your duties will include but not be limited to the following.

  • Ability to act as a stand-alone operator on any given project.

Major Recruitment are searching for a Lead Site Hand – Sheet Metal Worker for our client based in Washington. This vacancy is full-time and permanent for the right candidate.

Duties include:

  • Working between the workshop and customer sites to complete projects
  • Working from engineering drawings to fabricate jobs
  • Producing bespoke products from various metals, specifically sheet metal
  • Working to tight tolerances
  • MIG and TIG welding

Hours of work and pay rate:

  • Monday to Thursday, 7am till 4pm
  • Friday 7am till 1pm
  • £16.00 per hour starting salary, this is negotiable depending on experience
  • First 7 hours OT worked Monday to Saturday x1.55, x2.05 after 7 hours/ Sunday
  • Overtime expected during the week and on weekends

Successful candidates must:

  • Have a minimum 5 years’ experience in sheet metal/ fabrication
  • Have previous experience working on site (essential)
  • Be able to work both individually and within a team, taking the lead when on site
  • Have experience in MIG and TIG welding processes
  • Be able to read from engineering and design drawings
  • Have worked with mild/ stainless steel and aluminium
  • Be able to self-check own work

Experience Required

  • Proven time served experience in programming, setting and operating 2 axis turning machines.
  • Ability to write new CNC programs long hand at the machine with little or no supervision.
  • Also, editing prewritten programs, the full machine setup including material, tooling, speeds, feeds.
  • Carry out in-process inspection using measuring equipment.
  • Producing one off, as well as low to medium volume precision parts in a range of hard and soft metals.
  • Excellent working knowledge of 2 axis CNC machines, cutting speeds and feeds, geometric tolerances.
  • Solid understanding of interpreting engineering drawings and standards.
  • Experience of Fanuc controls would be advantageous.
  • Have a strong working history within the manufacturing industry within a machine shop environment.
  • Have a hands-on, quality driven, positive, self-motivated manner in order to be able to hit the ground running.
  • Confident in working on parts up to ¢300mm x 3m in length, using lifting equipment provided as some of our work can be large. Hoist training will also be provided.

A proven practitioner of preventative maintenance, predictive maintenance, problem solving and continuous improvement skills

REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS

Must have a proven ability in diagnostic fault finding under pressure of production

The majority of day-to-day activities are probably 70% mechanical and 30% electrical

Familiarity with the use of PC equipment is essential

Familiar with TPM principles including 5S. Use of computerised maintenance management systems, but not essential

Responsible for the maintenance in the whole building

  • Ability to work on own initiative as well as part of team

Salary: £19.78 (£43,199.52) once the required standard achieved, this maybe lower depending on experience. Paid weekly (monthly option available if preferred), based on working week Sunday to Saturday.

Shifts: Following induction (possible 2 – 4 weeks on dayshift) the shift pattern will be 4 on – 4 off, rotating days and nights; the hours of work being 7am-7pm days and 7pm -7am nights.

Overtime: Overtime rate paid at 1.25 and must be prepared to work additional shifts throughout the year to cover holidays or short-term absence.

Holidays: 24 days which includes percentage of 8 bank holidays, this will be pro-rata dependent upon start date.
