Job Summary:

We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Machine Operatives to join our clients production team. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating and maintaining machinery, including needle threading, basic machine programming, and monitoring product weights to ensure quality and compliance with production standards.

The pay rate starts at £12.76 per hour during the training period while employed through Major Recruitment.

Following successful completion of training and the transition to a permanent Technical Machine Operator role, employees will have the opportunity to progress through a structured pay grading system. Pay can increase up to £14.10 per hour, with progression based on competency, performance, and punctuality.

Shifts are Monday to Friday 6am – 2pm and 2pm – 10pm rotating weekly.

Overtime is paid at time and a half Monday to Saturday and double time up to 10pm on Sunday.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up, operate, and monitor machinery in accordance with production specifications
  • Thread needles and prepare machines for operational use
  • Program and adjust machine settings based on job requirements
  • Monitor product weights to ensure consistency and adherence to specifications
  • Perform regular quality checks and inspections on finished products
  • Identify and report any defects, inconsistencies, or equipment malfunctions
  • Maintain accurate production records, including weight logs and machine settings
  • Ensure work area and machinery are kept clean and safe at all times
  • Follow company health and safety procedures and report any hazards or incidents

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in a machine operative or production role
  • Ability to thread needles and handle detailed, repetitive tasks with precision
  • Basic knowledge of machine programming or willingness to learn
  • Strong attention to detail and a focus on quality
  • Ability to accurately monitor and record weights of products or components
  • Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Flexible and able to work as part of a team or independently

Desirable:

  • Experience in textile, packaging, or manufacturing environments
  • Familiarity with digital machine controls or programmable settings
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills

MAIN PURPOSE & SCOPE

Responsible for ensuring the quality and presentation of our products is always maintained, from producing, packaging and collating order ready to send to our customers.

DUTIES:-

  • Liaise directly with Production Supervisor and Assistant Supervisor for daily tasks.
  • Working in the Production department, according to customers’ orders or supervisors’ instructions.
  • Full understanding of allergen awareness, handling and controls in place.
  • Check finish products for quality on the production line and removing any defective packaging, including broken protective seals.
  • Make minor adjustments to machine settings to handle changes from one type of packaging to another.
  • Ensure machines are supplied with the correct packaging materials and labels.
  • Ensure that equipment is used in accordance with training provided and the law.
  • Full understanding of the company’s metal detection CCP.
  • Report machine faults to Production Supervisor and/or Assistant Supervisor and Maintenance Staff.
  • Ensure that all Health and Safety procedures are adhered to, including hygiene and PPE.
  • Ability to lift mixed sauces to 25kg
  • Good working knowledge of English language
  • Work collaboratively with other operators in supporting with effective training of new starters.
  • Pro-active engagement in identifying potential procedural improvements, risk assessments and safe systems of work in line with the role and bringing to the attention of Shift Leaders/Management.
  • Demonstrate a good work ethic on a day to day basis.
  • Complying with quality standards, company policies and procedures, adhering to best practices.
  • To be flexible in approach to assist and cover all parts of production operations, if required.
  • Carry out daily cleaning duties adhering to training given by chemical expert, as well as carry out weekly and monthly deep cleaning duties.
  • Contribute towards the smooth running of the team.
  • Maintain quality service by following organisation standards.
  • Ensure that mandatory and company training remains up to date.

The role

We are currently recruiting for a Production Operative (HPR) to join a production team in Halifax.

Working within a manufacturing environment, you will be responsible for supporting the safe and efficient production of PVB (Polyvinyl Butyral) products. You will operate and monitor the High Pressure Reactor (HPR), follow batch instructions, complete production records, and ensure all work meets the required safety and quality standards.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in production, chemical processing, process plant operations, or a similar industrial environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor the PVB production process in line with approved procedures.

  • Set up, operate and monitor the High Pressure Reactor.

  • Charge raw materials into vessels and reactors according to batch instructions.

  • Monitor temperature, pressure and reaction times, making authorised adjustments where required.

  • Carry out routine equipment checks and report faults, defects or process deviations.

  • Complete production documentation accurately and maintain quality records.

  • Take samples and carry out basic quality checks.

  • Provide support across other production areas, including milling, dropping out, dispersions and emulsions.

  • Follow all health, safety, environmental and quality procedures.

  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping within the department.

About you

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Previous experience in a manufacturing, chemical processing or production environment.

  • Experience operating process plant equipment, reactors or similar machinery.

  • A good understanding of safe working practices in an industrial environment.

  • The ability to follow standard operating procedures and batch instructions accurately.

  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality.

  • Good numeracy, literacy and record-keeping skills.

  • The ability to identify and report process issues or deviations.

  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.

  • Manual handling experience.

  • Basic computer literacy.

Job Description

As a Mobile Plant Operator at the Brackmills Waste Transfer Station, you will play a crucial role in managing day-to-day site operations, processing incoming waste materials, and maintaining site safety standards.

Key Day-to-Day Duties

  • Safely operate heavy plant machinery (Telehandlers, and where certified, Loading Shovels and 360 Excavators) to load, move, and stack waste materials across the site.

  • Control tipping hall operations, perform vehicle marshalling, and direct traffic/deliveries safely within the transfer station.

  • Load bulk collection vehicles, static plant, and transfer containers efficiently.

  • Ensure a continuous, reliable supply of waste is available for processing and bulking.
