Business Development Manager

£40,000-£60,000 DOE + Uncapped Bonus + Company Vehicle/Car Allowance | UK-Wide | Flexible Home-Based

An exciting opportunity to build something from the ground up

A growing, independent tool hire company is looking for an ambitious and commercially driven Business Development Manager to help grow its UK-wide Cross Hire & Brokerage operation.

The company has built an excellent reputation for service, reliability and going the extra mile for customers. With a substantial owned fleet, experienced hire controllers and strong technical knowledge, it offers something different from a traditional brokerage business – it understands hire from the ground up.

The business is now investing in the continued growth of its cross-hire and brokerage operation and is looking for someone who can help take it to the next level.

The opportunity

This is not simply a sales role.

The successful candidate will have the autonomy and freedom to develop new relationships, win new business, expand the supplier network and shape the future direction of the brokerage division.

The role will suit someone with cross-hire experience within small tools, plant or equipment hire who understands how the industry works and already has strong customer and supplier relationships.

However, the company is also open to candidates from other industries who can demonstrate a strong track record in business development, relationship management and winning new customers.

The role

As Business Development Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Growing the national customer base for cross-hire and brokerage services.
  • Identifying and securing new business opportunities across construction, infrastructure, facilities management and related sectors.
  • Developing relationships with contractors, procurement teams and industry contacts.
  • Managing and expanding existing customer accounts.
  • Building and maintaining strong supplier relationships across the UK.
  • Coordinating equipment supply through the company’s supplier network and owned fleet.
  • Working closely with experienced hire controllers to deliver the right solutions for customers.
  • Negotiating rates, terms and agreements to maximise profitability and customer value.
  • Identifying new markets and opportunities for growth.

The ideal candidate

The company is ideally seeking an experienced Business Development Manager or Sales professional from the tool hire, plant hire, equipment hire or construction sectors, particularly someone with experience of cross hire.

The successful candidate will ideally bring:

  • Proven experience in business development and new business generation.
  • Knowledge of the UK hire, plant or equipment market.
  • An established network of industry contacts.
  • A strong track record of growing customer accounts.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong commercial awareness and negotiation ability.
  • A proactive, self-motivated and independent approach.
  • A solution-focused mindset.
  • A full UK driving licence.

Candidates without direct hire experience will also be considered if they can demonstrate the commercial ability, drive and relationship-building skills required to succeed in the role.

What’s on offer?

  • £40,000-£60,000 salary, depending on experience.
  • Uncapped bonus linked to performance and growth.
  • Company vehicle or car allowance.
  • Flexible home-based working with national travel.
  • 25 days’ holiday plus bank holidays.
  • Enhanced contributory Workplace Pension.
  • Health Cash Plan with virtual GP service.

Make the role your own

This is a genuine opportunity for an ambitious Business Development Manager to make a mark.

The successful candidate will have the freedom to develop their own approach, build a national network, influence the direction of the Cross Hire & Brokerage division and play a key role in the company’s continued growth.

For someone who understands hire, knows how to build relationships and enjoys creating opportunities where others see obstacles, this could be an exciting next step.

If that sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.

Product Manager – Fusegear

Location: Ponteland, Newcastle upon Tyne
Salary: £70,800 per annum
Working Pattern: Primarily site-based, with some hybrid flexibility considered for the right candidate

The Opportunity

We are working with an established British manufacturing business with an international customer base, specialising in electrical protection and fusegear products.

Due to continued growth and development of their product portfolio, they are looking to appoint an experienced Product Manager – Fusegear.

This is a newly created position offering the opportunity to take ownership of an established product portfolio and have a genuine influence on its future direction, development and growth.

This is not simply a product coordination role. You will be responsible for product strategy, portfolio management, market intelligence and product lifecycle management, working closely with customers, commercial teams, R&D, engineering, manufacturing and quality.

The Role

You will take ownership of the product portfolio across LV and MV fusegear, managing products throughout their complete lifecycle from introduction and growth through to maturity and rationalisation.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and own the product strategy and portfolio roadmap.
  • Identify opportunities for new products, product variants and product improvements.

  • Conduct market and competitor analysis to understand customer requirements and market positioning.

  • Support product standardisation, engineering changes and portfolio rationalisation.

About You

We are looking for an experienced Product Manager, Product Line Manager, Portfolio Manager or Technical Product Manager who has developed their career within switchgear, fusegear, circuit protection or electrical protection products.

You will ideally have:

  • Proven experience within switchgear, fusegear or electrical protection.
  • Strong understanding of LV and MV products and their applications.

  • A strategic mindset combined with the ability to understand technical detail.
  • The confidence to challenge existing thinking and introduce new ideas.
  • A proactive, analytical and results-focused approach.

An engineering qualification in Electrical, Mechanical or Materials Engineering would be advantageous.

Experience with electrical standards, testing and certification would also be beneficial.

Why This Role?

This is a newly created Product Management role, giving you the opportunity to make a genuine impact rather than simply manage an established roadmap.

You will have the scope to influence decisions around:

  • Product strategy and future development
  • New product opportunities
  • Market and customer requirements
  • Portfolio growth
  • Product standardisation
  • Product lifecycle and rationalisation

You will act as the link between customers and the market and the internal technical and engineering teams, helping shape the products the business takes to market.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced product professional who wants to combine technical expertise, commercial thinking and strategic product management.

Location

The role is based in Ponteland, Newcastle upon Tyne.

A strong onsite presence will be required to work effectively with R&D, engineering and manufacturing teams. Some hybrid flexibility may be considered for the right candidate, but regular attendance at the site will be required.
