Major Recruitment are recruiting a Shift Cover Machine Operator (Trainee Shift Cover Operator) to join a prestigious manufacturing company based in Failsworth, Manchester.

Please note this is a shift cover position, the successful candidate will be required to work a weekly rotating shift pattern and must be flexible to cover shifts for sickness and holidays at short notice to meet business needs.

Our client is offering excellent training and progression opportunities to become a PMU Operator.

The role is varied and the successful candidate will be fully trained in all aspects of operations such as; raw materials, bagging, robot operating and despatch FLT.

General duties to include but not limited to:

  • Responsible for the movement of materials, finished product and packaging.
  • To ensure that all pallets of finished product are weighed and recorded.
  • To help to ensure that all decanting / relabelling requirements are carried out on time and in line with customer requirements.
  • To ensure that part pallets are used where appropriate.
  • Responsible for maintaining a clean and tidy workplace at all times.
  • To ensure good stock rotation.
  • To keep all pallets clearly identified by clear labelling.
  • Re-label and restack finished product as and when required.
  • Accurately book in and out materials using the internal network and to keep stock levels accurate(BB /FV).
  • Responsible for issuing all packaging used to ensure packaging stock is correct at all times
  • Carry out the responsibilities of Despatch/RM FLT drivers from time to time.
  • Help ensure that all decanting / relabelling requirements are carried out on time and in line with customer requirements.
  • To work away ‘reject’ material where appropriate.
  • Ensure that part pallets are used where appropriate.
  • Carrying out daily FLT checks on the equipment in use that day.
  • Promote and ensure that safe working systems and practices are in use at all times.
  • Ensure that you understand the hazards and precautions required for all activities undertaken.
  • Understand and ensure implementation of emergency procedures and safe systems of work.
  • Ensure prompt reporting and investigation of all accidents, near misses and breaches of rules.
  • To liaise with the Team Leader to ensure adequate cover on the shift working system.

A Counterbalance FLT licence is highly desirable although not essential as full training will be provided.

Working Hours (rotating weekly)

Early Shift Monday to Friday 6am – 2pm

Afternoon Shift Monday to Friday 2pm – 10pm

Night Shift Monday to Friday 10pm – 6am

Plus the potential to work weekends.

Salary: £30,070.62 per annum plus overtime for additional hours worked

We are seeking a highly capable Night Hygiene Manager to lead our hygiene operations and ensure that our site is fully compliant, safe, and production-ready every morning. This is a pivotal role in maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, food safety, and compliance across our chilled food manufacturing facility.

About the Role

As Night Hygiene Manager, you’ll be responsible for ensuring our site is cleaned effectively, efficiently, and in line with strict health, safety, and food safety requirements. You’ll manage and develop a dedicated hygiene team, drive continuous improvements in standards and systems, and ensure compliance with external audits and certifications (BRC, ISO, and customer standards).

Key Responsibilities

  • Take full ownership for hygiene operations on the night shift, ensuring the site is clean, safe, and production-ready.
